Dapagliflozin Propanediol

Indications

In individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus, dapagliflozin is used as a supplement to diet and exercise to enhance glycemic control.

Pharmacology

Dapagliflozin is a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that improves glycemic management in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus by lowering renal glucose reabsorption and causing excess glucose to be excreted in the urine (glucuresis).

Dosage & Administration

5 mg orally once a day. May increase to 10 mg orally once a day in patients tolerating therapy with 5 mg and requiring additional glycemic control.

Interaction

When insulin and insulin secretagogues, such as sulfonylureas, are used together, hypoglycemia might result. Rifampin causes a decrease in Cmax and AUC. Mefenamic acid increases Cmax and AUC. Dehydration and hypotension may be increased due to increased thiazide and loop diuretic effects. Pioglitazone.

Contraindications

Dapagliflozin propanediol or any of the excipients cause hypersensitivity. Renal impairment ranging from mild to severe; end-stage renal illness; active bladder cancer Lactation with pregnancy (second and third trimesters).

Pregnancy & Lactation

Precautions & Warnings

CVD, history of hypotension, urinary tract infection (UTI), children, and the elderly. Because it is unknown whether dapagliflozin is dispersed in human breast milk, breastfeeding women should stop taking it or stop nursing, notwithstanding the drug's importance to the mother.
